What is the Hallowed Ground Project (HGP)?
The HGP is a volunteer effort by amateur photographers to document veterans cemeteries and war memorials throughout the USA and overseas.
How do I submit photos to the project?
At this stage you must have a account on the photo sharing site FLICKR. Accounts on flickr are free for general use and sign up is easy. Once you have a flickr account you will need to "join" the "group" Hallowed Ground Project and send your photos to the group pool. See the Flickr FAQ for help on all issues related to accounts
What kind of photos are you looking for?
We are looking for tasteful artistic or journalistic photos of these sites. Images should convey the solemnity and honor due these "hallowed" places. Please no "tourist" photos with family members or shots of similar nature. Submissions to the site are moderated and such shots will be politely rejected.
Do I still retain rights to my photos?
Yes, you still retain any rights you assign to your photos (a Flickr setting can establish this for you). In joining the group you will agree to group rules which state that your photos may appear on this website.
How are photos displayed on the http://hallowedgroundproject.org website?
The website "grabs" the RSS feed from the group pool on Flickr and displays the 20 newest photos submitted inside a Flash movie. No photos reside in the site directory from any member other than the program admin Peter Serko, they are all drawn from Flickr.
I submitted my photos but they do not appear in the group pool or on the website.
The group is "moderated" all submitted photos must be approved first before they appear. Generally photos are reviewed several times a day.
